The Impact of an Economic Slowdown
To help local authorities and partner organisations assess the likely impact of the recession on their own area, Local Futures has developed a customised workshop offer. To do this we have joined forces with economics consultancy Volterra and consumer research specialists The Trajectory Partnership. Together with our own geographical perspective we offer a unique insight into the implications of the recession for businesses, communities and for local authorities and partners themselves.
Workshop
The findings of our research are presented at workshops, ideally involving key partner organisations, where we assess the impact and implications for your own area. At the workshop we assess:
The economic implications of a slowdown
Here we present our analysis of the wider economic implications of the recession. We identify the level of employment in vulnerable sectors, assess potential job losses and consider the scale of the impact on your own local economy.
The implications for consumers and communities
In this session we assess the impact of the recession on consumers and communities. We consider the impact on unemployment and implications for local families and communities.
Policy implications
In the final session we consider the implications for local policy, highlighting action that can be taken to support businesses and also actions to support local families and communities. Finally, we assess the potential impact of the slowdown on local authority revenues and resources and implications for delivering LAA targets.
While the workshops will be informed by our research, they involve facilitated exercises allowing the opportunity for participants to develop a tailored economic slowdown action plan.
Report
As an optional extra the findings of the research and workshop can be provided in the form of a written report.
